Success Story: Breadline Inc. (Stone's Throw)

Breadline Inc.'s Stone's Throw Training Program is a 12 week training program based in Fairbanks, AK that provides trainees with hands-on experience in foodservice, as well other life skills and job readiness skills. Stone’s Throw has fostered a rich network of community partners that actively support the success of the program and trainees. 


Trainee Population: Recovery and Re-entry, Youth & Adults

Enterprises Run: Soup Kitchen, Transitional Housing & Disaster Relief Meals

Problem:  Local need for job training programs built on strong partnerships; lack of resources to launch program.

Solution:  Support fundraising and stakeholder engagement to launch training program embedded in existing community feeding operations; launch initial social enterprise and prepare for expansion

Services Provided:  Initial feasibility assessment through a Virtual Discovery Workshop, and a long-term consulting contract, which included formalized program design for adult foodservice training, operational readiness support, partnership development support, curriculum materials, staff training, social enterprise development support


Successful training program pilot launched: 2 students, 100% program graduation, 100% job placement. Program evaluation and full launch underway. 

First social enterprise lines of business launched via strong local partnership; local food access survey and market research underway to assess opportunity for expansion.
